What is Mental Health First Aid?

Practical skills for offering initial support

Mental Health First Aid training takes a first-aid approach to mental health. Participants learn how to notice possible signs of a mental health problem, respond to a range of situations, offer initial support and help another adult connect with appropriate professional or other assistance. The course builds mental health literacy and provides a practical, evidence-based action plan for supportive conversations.

Mental Health First Aid training does not teach participants to diagnose or provide therapy. It equips participants to offer initial support until professional help is received or the situation resolves.
